Project Description

High School Ambition

Located in the heart of La Rochelle (36 rue Massiou), the Fénelon Notre-Dame General and Technological High School has made a name for itself for the sageness cultivated over its 150 years of existence, and its continual ability to evolve.
We provide orientation days for 9th graders to help them transition smoothly into high school. Once settled into 10th grade, workshops introducing to the high school pedagogical program as well as a gradewide sports trip promote cohesion among students and adults in the educational community. This is a first step in the personalized support provided to each student during their high school career, including guidance with professional initiatives or toward post-secondary education.
To unwind and connect with classmates, the 9 th/10 th grade recreational lounge and the 11th/12th grade high school student lounge are havens of conviviality, relaxation, and camaraderie.
The Maison de l’Etoile is our student residence, located in Saint-Xandre. It is reserved for middle school, high school, and post-secondary school students. Boarders can be accommodated as early as Sunday evening for the following school week.

Progressing Toward the Baccalaureat

We must be ambitious, but mustn’t get our ambition wrong” Jacques de Bourbon Busset

Following the progression of the Baccalaureate Reform, the school year has been reorganized into semesters, co-teaching is being integrated in the General (non-Technical) High School, and interdisciplinary approaches are being accentuated. Student are involved in every phase of the process, from planning to choosing among a wide range of specialties. The enrichment of our teaching practices as well as the development of unique programs and options continue to set our school apart.

Fénelon Notre-Dame leads each student toward his or her personal success, reflecting their individual goals and abilities. Our teaching community provides support and gives recognition to every student for who he or she is. This personalized guidance allows each high school student to distinguish him- or herself in a chosen field of study. It encourages them to make their best effort in civic or pastoral commitments, to progress serenely throughout exam preparations, and to delineate their choices for the future…

We educate citizens of the world, open to all cultures and respectful of the planet. Toward this end, we extend opportunities for students to participate in environmental projects, student exchanges, language immersion trips, and hosting foreign students.
In addition to European sections and French as a Foreign Language, we offer an optional International Program that aims to culminate in each participating student’s bilingualism and biculturality as well as the obtention of an OIB Baccalaureate.
The Fénelon Notre-Dame high school is a certified TOEFL exam center and also prepares its students for the Cambridge B2 First qualification, Goethe-Institute certificate exams, DELE Spanish Diplomas (Instituto Cervantes), and HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Chinese language assessment for foreign students.
High school students improve their athletic performance by participating in sports such as badminton, basketball, climbing, football, futsal, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, tennis, windsurfing, surfing, step-fitness, and triathlon. In addition to sports classes, there are opportunities to participate in the sports association, electives, and competitions.
Our electives and options allow students to pursue interests in the arts, literature, scientific methods and practices, research in mathematics, law, economics, management, classical languages, a third foreign language, computer science and digital content creation, engineering sciences, exam preparation for entry into IEP (Political Science Institute) and in CPGE (preparatory classes for leading post-secondary schools).
Opening oneself to others by accepting differences, becoming a citizen who engages in humanitarian initiatives, and initiatives in their faith… Through pastoral guidance sessions, high school students address essential life issues. Preparatory religious instruction is provided for those students wishing to receive the sacrements.
A college guidance fair helps 11th grade students identify paths of higher education that may be of interest to them. Their homeroom teacher then oversees their application procedure on the ParcourSup college application platform.
